Ypsilanti Township Trick-or-Treating time for Sunday, October 31, 2021 is from 5:00pm - 8:00pm.

Halloween should be a fun and memorable night for children and their parents. Before heading out, review these tips so you can be prepared for a safe Halloween night of trick-or-treating:

  • The sunset time for Halloween in Ypsilanti Township will be around 6:30pm. Be sure to wear bright colors or add reflective gear to costumes and candy bags so children are easily seen in the dark. Trick-or-treaters should also carry a glow stick or flashlight.
  • Keep children, draperies, furniture, and decorations away from flammable items such as jack-o-lanterns and candles.
  • Watch pets around costumed children. Pets may become frightened resulting in unexpected behavior.
  • Be sure that costume props are safe. Avoid hard plastic or wooden props; opt instead for items made of foam or rubber.
  • Plan a trick-or-treating route ahead of time in familiar neighborhoods with well-lit streets. Avoid unfamiliar neighborhoods, streets that are isolated or homes that are poorly lit inside or outside.
  • Never send young children out alone. They should always be accompanied by a parent or another trusted adult. Older children trick-or-treating without a parent should always travel in groups; know the route and neighborhood your child will be trick-or-treating in.
  • Do not allow children to approach a home or vehicle alone.
  • Watch for traffic and avoid walking in the street. It may be difficult for drivers to see children in the dark. Only cross the street using a crosswalk.
  • Have a plan incase you get separated. Make sure your children know your phone number(s) and address.
  • Teach your children to say "NO!" and "This is NOT my mother/father!" in a loud voice if someone tries to get them to go somewhere, accept anything other than a treat, or leave with them. Also teach them to make every effort to run away by kicking, screaming, and resisting.
  • Remind your children not to eat any candy until you get home and can inspect it for any suspicious packaging.
  • Remember to drive slowly and carefully on Halloween, especially through neighborhoods. Some children may be wearing costumes which make them difficult to see.

We hope everyone has fun and stays safe this Halloween!
