Road ClosedUpdate October 18, 2019: The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) re-opened Grove Road between Margarita Street and Harris Road in Ypsilanti Township.

The work remaining includes the construction of new concrete sidewalk along the south side of the road and the installation of new pavement markings. This work is expected to be completed in the very near future.

To accommodate the above noted remaining work, we will be implementing a lane shift, moving westbound traffic into the on-street parking lane. The shifting of the traffic will include temporary traffic control and temporary pavement markings.

Update October 14, 2019: Last week, contractors completed the paving work required on Grove Road in Ypsilanti Township. The road remains closed to traffic until they can finish a few punch-list safety items including guardrail, sidewalk and pavement markings.

We hope to reopen the road later this week or early next week, depending on the weather. We will issue an update as soon as the road is back open to traffic. Thank you for your patience during this project.

Update October 7, 2019: Over the past two weeks, contractors have made significant progress on the reconstruction of Grove Road between Margarita Street and Harris Road in Ypsilanti Township. They have completed the storm sewer work, including the new outlet to Ford Lake, and the stone aggregate base has been placed in the curb and roadway areas. In addition, the concrete curb has also been constructed.

There's a lot work of planned this week (if the weather cooperates) including guardrail installation, final grading of the stone aggregate road base, and the first layer of asphalt paving.

Grove Road remains closed between Margarita Street and Harris Road to facilitate this construction. Residents who live within the work zone will continue to have access to their homes, all other traffic must follow the posted detour or seek an alternate route. We are still hoping to have the road reopened to traffic by the end of October, as long as the weather continues to cooperate.

Update September 23, 2019: Contractors have been making steady progress on the reconstruction of Grove Road between Margarita Street and Harris Road in Ypsilanti Township. Right now they continue to be focused on building the new storm sewer system and removing damaged parts of the roadway and sidewalk.

Once the underground and removal work has been completed, new curb, sidewalk, asphalt pavement, guardrail, and pavement markings will be installed.

Grove Road remains closed between Margarita Street and Harris Road to facilitate this construction. Residents who live within the work zone will continue to have access to their homes, all other traffic must follow the posted detour or seek an alternate route.

Update Tuesday, July 16, 2019: On Thursday, July 18, 2019, the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will CLOSE Grove Rd between Margarita St and Harris Rd in Ypsilanti Township to through traffic.

This closure will allow for slope stabilization and the subsequent reconstruction of a portion of Grove Road. This closure is expected to last approximately 6 - 8 weeks, but will depend upon weather, site conditions, scope of work, and contractor schedules.

Access to the residential properties will be maintained. Loon Feather Point Park is closed until further notice due to construction. On-street parking will NOT be permitted on Grove Rd between Margarita St and Harris Rd. This work requires the placement of steel sheeting along the slope and will be very noisy during the day.

Update Tuesday, June 11, 2019: On Wednesday, June 12, 2019, the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will shift west bound traffic to the on-street parking lane on Grove Rd between Margarita St and Harris Rd in Ypsilanti Township. East bound traffic will also be shifted. Two-way traffic will be maintained.

This lane shift will allow for the continued evaluation and follow up repairs to this segment of Grove Road.

Residents who live within the work zone will be provided access to their driveways, but on-street parking will not be permitted on Grove Rd between Margarita St and Harris Rd. Every attempt will be made to contact vehicle owners for those vehicles remaining in the on-street parking area however, if a vehicle owner cannot be contacted, the vehicle will be towed. The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department will enforce this temporary traffic order.

The Grove Rd eastbound lane was closed as of Wednesday, June 5, 2019. Eastbound traffic will be shifted into the center lane, thereby maintaining two-way traffic on Grove Rd, while moving the traffic away from an area exhibiting slope stability issues. A schedule to reopen the closed lane at this location is currently undetermined.

WCRC thanks you in advance for your patience as the agency determines the best course of action to address this lane closure.
