State Representative Ronnie Peterson presents an Early Childhood Education Town Hall featuring Margy Long, Director of the Success by 6 great Start Collaborative Monday, October 22, 2018 from 6:00pm - 7:30pm at Ypsilanti Township Civic Center (7200 S Huron River Dr).

According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, 20% of all children and 55% of African-American children in Washtenaw County are living at or below the federal poverty level. Children raised in poverty have limited access to health care, high-quality education, and safe neighborhoods — the very ingredients that are important for success in school and beyond.

State Representative Ronnie Peterson's goal is to end the cycle of poverty and allow children to move beyond barriers that could limit their potential. He has partnered with the Success by 6 Great Start Collaborative in an effort to strengthen and streamline the early childhood system of programs and services in our county.

Success by 6 Great Start Collaborative is a group of over 40 organizations working together to provide childcare, early education, parenting leadership instruction, pediatric and family health care, and family support. Supporting parents and helping their children develop the social, emotional and cognitive skills needed for school readiness greatly increases the likelihood of a child’s success in school and life, and delivers a tremendous return on investment for our community. Children who receive high-quality early childhood education are less frequently identified for special education services, complete a higher level of schooling, and as adults, have higher monthly incomes, more home ownership, fewer arrests and utilize a lower percentage of social services.
