Brenda Stumbo

Brenda Stumbo is entering her 31st year of being elected. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky and moved to Ypsilanti Township when she was 5 years old. She graduated from Lincoln Consolidated Schools and Central Michigan University. Brenda was elected in 1988 as an Ypsilanti Township Trustee and in 1992, was elected as Township Clerk and served in that capacity until November 2008 when she was elected as Township Supervisor.

Brenda’s commitment to the residents of Ypsilanti Township is unwavering. Next to being a mother, being a public servant is her greatest honor and she strives to always “place residents first”. This is a philosophy she brought to the Township and feels that residents and businesses are our customers. Her door is always open to anyone; whether it is someone with a concern or just someone stopping by to say hello!

In addition to public safety, our priorities in Ypsilanti Township are neighborhood stabilization and economic development. Our Township Board, staff, attorneys and professional services have worked diligently to stabilize our neighborhoods and keep our community clean and free of blighted structures.

Our community took a huge hit with jobs and tax revenue when the General Motors plant at historic Willow Run closed in 2009 but Brenda believes when one door closes, another opens. She never gave up on seeing the 300-acre property redeveloped. In 2016, the American Center for Mobility announced development of a state-of-the-art autonomous vehicle research facility on the site in 2017. This is an incredible opportunity for our community, county, state and country! It will be the largest proving ground in the world once it is completed at historic Willow Run!

In addition to being Township Supervisor, she also serves on the Convention and Visitors Bureau, the YCUA Board and WATS (Washtenaw Area Transportation System), to name a few.

Brenda’s faith, family and community are her guiding principles when serving our community, which she believes is an honor and a privilege.
