Elected as a Trustee in 2020
John P. Newman II is an accountant who is a long-time resident of Ypsilanti Township. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and his MBA in Management Information Systems. He began his professional career with the Internal Revenue Service as a Revenue Agent trainee where he met his wife, Karen.
John has been a public servant over 25 years working for various governments in financial capacities.
John has worked for Wayne County as a Budget Analyst and Department Manager. He was responsible for overseeing the budgets for some of the largest county departments including: Register of Deeds, Homeland Security, Sheriff, Clerk and the CEO.
Currently, John is employed with Washtenaw County as Finance Accountant and is responsible for the Child Care fund, the statistical section of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and the coordination of the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards. He prepares quarterly grant reports for various departments. John is known for his attention to detail and analytical abilities.
John’s Community activities include serving as a Deacon at Second Baptist Church and as Treasurer of his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi, Ann Arbor Ypsilanti Inkster chapter.
He has volunteered as a tax preparer with Accounting Aid Society and Wayne Metro.
He was a former Executive Board Member of AFSCME Union 1862 at Wayne County.
John has been married to his wife Karen over 25 years. She retired from the Internal Revenue Service working in various management and educational capacities. He has two adult children.
