Building Inspector - Posted 5/6/22

The Charter Township of Ypsilanti is seeking a Building Inspector to perform specialized inspection work involving building construction, zoning, soil erosion, and property maintenance to insure compliance with established standards and ordinances, codes, rules and regulations. Prepare correspondence, records and reports. Perform related work as required.

Applicants must:
• Considerable knowledge of the laws, ordinances, and codes dealing with building construction requirements.
• Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques used in building design and construction.
• Reasonable knowledge of inspection methods, practices and techniques pertaining to building.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and blueprints.
• Ability to detect structural and other faults and to appraise the quality of construction and workmanship.
• Ability to prepare and maintain correspondence, records and reports.
• Must have interpersonal skills to work effectively with the public, other employees and customers.
• Required training includes graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
• Four years experience required in responsible work related to building construction.
• Must be Michigan registered as a Building Inspector and Plan Reviewer or eligible for registration under Act 407.
• Certification to perform Soil Erosion inspections preferred but not required.
• Must hold and maintain a valid Michigan driver license with a good driving record.

Starting Salary Range: $29.54/hour - $30.54/hour DOQ

 Part-Time Building Attendant (2 positions available) - Posted 4/18/22

Position serves as a receptionist for the Community Center located at 2025 E. Clark Road. Primary responsibilities include monitoring facility use, taking building reservations and program registration, customer service on phone and in-person.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities and minimum qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.  These requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.

 

• Have high school diploma or equivalent 
• Have excellent customer service skills both verbally in person and in writing.
• Have excellent data entry skills
• Have accuracy with cash transactions
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with good record.
• Flexible schedule including days, evenings and weekends (approximately 12-20 hours per week).

Starting Salary: $17.51/hour

Entry Level Firefighter - Posted 4/6/22

The Charter Township of Ypsilanti will be accepting Entry Level Firefighter application packets Wednesday, April 20, 2022 – Friday, May 27, 2022. This process will be used to establish an eligibility list for a 2-year period. Duties of a firefighter include work in the protection of life and property; to operate and assist in maintaining equipment, apparatus and facilities; and to participate in rescue and fire prevention activities.

APPLICATION PACKETS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED OUTSIDE OF APRIL 20, 2022 - MAY 27, 2022.

Requirements to apply: 

  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • U.S. citizen
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver license with good record - no more than 6 pts in the last 5 years (applicants with out of state driver license must provide a copy of their driving record from the Secretary of State office that issued the license)
  • Michigan Firefighter Training Council Firefighter I & II Certification
  • State of Michigan or Equivalent Emergency Medical Technician—Basic License
  • Written exam through Conference of Western Wayne or EMPCO with a 70% or above
  • National certified (CPAT) physical agility test (all certifications must be valid at time of application and job offer)
  • Copy of Photo Identification
