Staff Planner will perform entry-level planning work to administer and implement applicable Township ordinances and the day-to-day operations of the Planning Department. Staff Planner will also provide assistance with Zoning and Code Compliance as needed.

Essential Functions, Qualifications and KSA’s for Employment
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities and minimum qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. These requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.

• A minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration or a closely related field from a college or university of recognized standing.
• One year of planning or similar experience desired, preferably within a municipality or other governmental entity.
• Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, and regulations related to zoning and planning.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and BS&A.
• Basic math skills required to perform planning reviews.
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment.
• GIS experience a plus.
• State of Michigan Vehicle Operator's License, a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to maintain one throughout employment.
• Ability to gather data, conduct research, prepare accurate and timely records, prepare reports, notices, memos and letters.
• Ability to demonstrate good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness within established parameters.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships when dealing with employees, supervisors, elected officials, the general public, other governmental and regulatory agencies, and professional contacts.
• Ability to convey and understand information effectively and promptly through speaking, hearing, reading, and writing.
• Ability to critically assess situations, problem solve, work effectively within deadlines and changing work priorities.

Job Description

Starting Salary: $22.12/hour
