Probation Officer - Posted 9/27/19

Applications are being accepted to fill a full-time Probation Officer position with the Charter Township of Ypsilanti 14-B District Court. Engages in activities related to the supervision of offenders to ensure compliance with terms and conditions of probation. Coordinates delivery of services order by the Court. Supervises probationer including, but not limited to in-person reporting, monitoring of treatment, counselling and programs. My also be required to visit individuals on probation at their home or the Washtenaw County Jail.

Essential Functions, Qualifications and KSA’s for Employment
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities and minimum qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. These requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.

• Four year college degree in criminal justice or related field of study or equivalent practical experience.
• Communication skills and telephone skills to respond to the public tactfully and courteously.
• Ability to work effectively with other employees and the public including law offices and attorneys.
• Ability to understand the relationship between various components of the forms used in compiling, computing and recording data.
• Skill and accuracy in typing 40 words per minute.
• Pass a criminal background check and drug test.
• Pass testing requirements to be a certified LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network) operator within six (6) months of employment and recertify as applicable.
• Possess a valid State of Michigan Vehicle Operator’s License.
• Have knowledge of substance abuse practices, interviewing skills, and assessment and referral practices.
• Be able to work independently and to set priorities to meet deadlines.

Job Description

Starting Salary: $21.69/hour
