Summer17Washtenaw County has partnered with the University of Michigan and Michigan Works! Southeast to launch the second year of the Summer17 Youth Employment Program. Washtenaw County is working closely with a number of other partners across the community to make this launch a success including the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office, United Way of Washtenaw County, Eastern Michigan University, My Brother's Keeper, Washtenaw County Public Health, Washtenaw Intermediate School District, Washtenaw County Juvenile Courts, and Ypsilanti Community Schools - just to name a few!

Summer17 is a nine-week summer employment and mentorship program that pairs local businesses with Washtenaw County youth (ages 16 - 24) to provide on-the-job training that sets the stage for life-long careers, opens doors to new industries, and provides mentorship critical to building professional networks.

Experiences like Summer17 are invaluable both for improving the employment outlook for youth and for the success of our overall local economy.

New this year, the University of Michigan has committed to matching every community job placement identified at local businesses with a job placement for a youth at the University. In order to fully leverage this generous commitment, the goal this year is to recruit at least 50 Washtenaw County businesses committed to providing  young people meaningful summer employment.
