Economic Development Director - Posted 3/16/18

Ypsilanti Township is seeking a dynamic and creative leader as its Economic Development Director. This full-time position is responsible for promoting the business and economic development interests of the Township. The ideal candidate will be an energetic and self-motivated individual that will proactively work to ensure the Township is leveraging its resources to sustain its position as a top place for business to locate in Washtenaw County.

The Director must understand the recent trends in the evolving economy and the Township role in placemaking, quality of life and talent attraction. A successful candidate must enjoy, and actively pursue, networking with the local business community and working directly with both large and small business to help them succeed.

Primary duties include implementing the Township Economic Development Strategy focusing on projects within the Township’s main commercial corridors, industrial and tech areas, and most importantly with the American Center for Mobility. The Director will engage with trade associations, and business owners; assist with site or building searches; facilitate the Township, County and State permit process; work with the Township Supervisor and Board to negotiate tax incentives or other financial assistance available through the Township, County, and State; assist in locating or applying for economic development loans or grants from the State or other lenders; and direct economic development research and strategic planning.

Supervision Received: This is a Director position exercising considerable independence and judgement. General guidance is provided by the Township Supervisor, Office of Community Standards and Assessing Departments. All policies are established by the Township Board regarding Economic Development.
