Larry Doe, Ypsilanti Township Treasurer
Has served as Treasurer from 1999 to Present
(734) 484 - 1002
Larry J. Doe was appointed Ypsilanti Township Treasurer by the Board in January, 1999 to complete the term of the treasurer who had been elected to the House of Representatives. He was elected as treasurer in November of 2000 and is currently serving his third consecutive term.
As the Township Treasurer, one of Larry's primary responsibilities is collecting real and personal property taxes. Other responsibilities include depositing township revenues in approved depositories and investing township funds in approved investment vehicles.
During Larry's term in office, he has made major improvements to the treasurer's office resulting in better service and reduced cost. The adoption of the equalizer tax system provided a more efficient tax collection method and allowed him to reduce his staff. Larry has brought in additional revenues to the township by aggressively pursuing businesses with delinquent personal property taxes. He initiated the procedure of sending courtesy reminders to township residents, giving them one more opportunity to pay their taxes before the delinquents tax rolls are sent to the county.
Larry eagerly represents Ypsilanti Township as an active participant with several community organizations such as the YCUA, Salvation Army Board, Washtenaw 100 Club, Kiwanis Club, Ypsi Pride, Gilbert Residence Board of Directors, Meals on Wheels and the Heritage Festival Board, to name a few. Past involvement has included the Ypsilanti Township Planning Commission, American Heart Association, United Way, Ypsilanti Visitors and Convention Bureau, Chamber of Commerce Policy Committee and Ypsi Area Community Fund.
Larry has been an Ypsilanti Township resident for 67 years. He retired from Ford Motor Company in January, 1999 with 37 years of service. Larry and his wife Fran have three children and one grandson. They reside in the Lincoln School District where Fran taught for 31 years before retiring and she currently works as a Student Teacher Supervisor for EMU. Larry and Fran are members of the Presbyterian Church of Ypsilanti.
