Karen Lovejoy Roe began her third term as Ypsilanti Township Clerk in November, 2016. She is grateful for the opportunity to serve all Ypsilanti Township residents and encourages residents to stop by, call or email her with questions, concerns or suggestions regarding our township. Karen loves Ypsilanti Township and is committed to working hard to continue to build our community as a great place to live, work and play.
Karen Lovejoy Roe was elected Washtenaw County Commissioner November, 2006 to a two-year term. She was honored to serve and work for the residents and taxpayers of the City of Milan, and Augusta, York and Ypsilanti Townships as their Commissioner in District 4 on the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners.
Karen believes in transparent, open government and first class service where residents and taxpayer’s needs are met daily. Communication with township residents is very important to Karen and she welcomes the opportunity to talk with you. Her door is always open and she is also very accessible for public meetings throughout the township and Ypsilanti area such as neighborhood watch, community and school meetings. Karen has extensive public service experience, serving as the first female Supervisor in the Charter Township of Ypsilanti for two terms and also as a trustee for two terms. She has served in leadership in municipal government for over 28 years beginning in 1988.
Ypsilanti Township has been home for Karen her entire life. She received her Master’s in Social Science from Eastern Michigan University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Sociology and Education also from Eastern Michigan University. She is both a graduate and former teacher of Willow Run Schools.
Most importantly, Karen shared the responsibility of raising their five children with her husband, Rick Roe. Karen is a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She is a proud grandmother of two.
Clerk Karen Lovejoy Roe is extremely grateful for the unwavering support she has received from the community over the years. She will work for responsible public policy that represents all township residents and protects property values in Ypsilanti Township. She considers it a great honor, privilege and blessing to be elected to serve. The ability and desire to help people on a daily basis is at the heart of her role as an elected servant.
